Natural Hair Wash Day Routine

+ Protein Treatment

Ive taken my focus off of length to concentrate on the overall health of my hair. Afterall, there’s no point in growing your hair long just for it to break off later. Ive been refraining from doing length checks and focusing on things that will help my hair grow in thicker. I’ll be doing an official length check sometime in December.

Natural Hair Wash Day Routine

Items Needed: 

  • Oils of your choice
  • Shampoo and conditioner of your choice
  • Protein treatment of your choice
  • Wide tooth comb
  • T-shirt ( to dry hair)
  • Hair ties or hair clips (to keep hair sectioned) OPTIONAL as you can twist or braid the sections
  • Shower caps or a plastic bag

Wash Day Prep: 

  1. Detangle and section hair into four sections
  2. Combine and lightly heat hot oil treatment oils
  3. Place towels on floor during protein treatment to prevent

Step 1: Hot oil treatment pre-poo:

Jamaican Black Castor Oil: Increase hair growth, thicken hair, reduce and prevent damage and prevents dry scalp.

Castor Oil: Repairs split ends, thickens hair, and fights dandruff.

Vitamin E: Improves blood circulation, normalizes oil production and PH levels, conditions hair.

Jojoba Oil: Moisturizes hair, treats dry itchy scalp, stimulates hair growth.

Olive Oil: Reduces frizz, adds softness and shine, split end remedy.

I combine these oils and warm them up placing the bottle in a cup of hot water. I start off on dry hair and work the oil into my scalp massaging with the pads of my fingers as I go. I then make sure my strands are fully covered in the oil mixture. I place a shower cap on my head and use body heat for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Wash!



I tried Carols Daughters Black Vanilla shampoo and conditioner for the first time. The shampoo was okay, I think Im going to stick to my Shea Moisture Black Jamaican castor oil shampoo but nevertheless, it got my hair clean. Happy that I opted for the sample size bottle.

Step 3: Protein Treatment


I have low porosity hair that LOVES protein. Whenever I start getting a lot of midshaft split ends I throw a protein treatment in my head. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly.

Step 4: Deep Condition


So Im not sure if its because Im used to Shea Mositures really thick deep conditioners and masks but I LOVED the feel of this product and how my hair felt when it was applied. I used about two pumps in each section and sat under a dryer on high heat for 15 minutes. Deep conditioning with indirect heat has totally changed the game for my wash and go’s and twist outs. They come out way more defined and beautiful.


My hair feels really moisturized and smells great. So nay to the shampoo but yay to the conditioner!
